Ballet Project 2014: Part 5 – Caves at Rosendale

This is part 5 of the 2014 edition of the Ballet Project. This is a series I shot last summer and fall. These photos comprise ballet poses at beautiful unexpected locations around the Hudson Valley and Catskills region of New York State. Check back weekly for new posts on the Ballet Project.

Our next stop was Rosendale in Ulster County. Rosendale is famous for the cement mines dotting the area. I was looking for a scene that had that magical fantasy sort of look. We decided to visit Widow Jane Mine which is the biggest in the area. Unfortunately we were not able to spend much time there as there was setup for a performance the next day taking place. I was able to get that magical cave-like look I wanted. This set of photo is some of the most interesting of the series and looks like it was shot in a giant cave in a far-off fantastic location.
